A clearer way to compare
Hearing aids under $500: what to expect
A budget under $500 can cover a rechargeable pair. Compare the complete price, fit, support and return terms before choosing.
01 / Your budget
What does a hearing aid under $500 include?

A hearing aid price can mean one device or two. Before comparing offers under $500, check what the advertised amount actually buys. If you are shopping for both ears, compare complete pairs and the accessories you need to use them.
Your budget should cover a complete start.
The hearing aids. Their charger. The fit. A way to get help.NILO Air and NILO Pro are both sold as rechargeable pairs with a charging case. Their current prices are shown below, so you can compare the two wearing styles within your budget.
02 / What to compare
Four things worth checking before you buy.

The fit
Look closely at how each device is worn. An in-ear model leaves the area behind your ear clear; a receiver-in-canal model places a slim body behind it. Compare in-ear and behind-the-ear hearing aids before deciding on appearance alone.

Daily handling
Consider inserting the devices, adjusting them, cleaning them and placing them in the charger. A small design is only a good match if you can handle it comfortably.

Help after buying
Check who you can contact about fit, settings or a problem. Look for clear instructions and a reachable support team. Ask what support includes, rather than assuming a lower price or a longer feature list tells the whole story.

The full cost
Review the charger, replacement ear tips, wax filters, warranty and return terms. Check for subscriptions or other required purchases. Compare the complete offer, including any return shipping you would pay.
03 / Your home trial
Put everyday conversations first.

Choose a few moments you want to hear more comfortably: talking across the table, following a television program or catching up with a friend. Revisit those moments during your trial and keep a short note of what feels easier and what still needs attention.
Getting used to hearing aids can take time. They do not restore normal hearing or remove every background sound.1 Give support specific examples so they can help you work through fit or settings.
Trying NILO at home
NILO includes a 45-day home trial and a 1-year warranty. Return shipping is paid by the customer. Read the return conditions before ordering, and contact NILO support if you need help during your trial.
Questions to settle before choosing.
Does a lower price mean the same care as a prescription fitting?
No. Compare the care you receive as well as the device. OTC hearing aids are a different route to purchase and setup. Our OTC vs. prescription guide explains the distinction.
Are all small sound amplifiers hearing aids?
No. Personal sound amplification products are intended for people with normal hearing in certain situations. Hearing aids are intended to address hearing loss. Check how the product is labeled and who it is intended for.2
Should budget be my first decision?
Start with suitability. In the US, OTC hearing aids are intended for adults 18 and older with perceived mild to moderate hearing loss. If you are unsure whether that describes your hearing, a hearing care professional can help you understand your options.2
